Discover the contrasting landscapes of California from Mount Whitney to Death Valley

Transcript

NARRATOR: California presents markedly contrasting landscapes, from snowy mountain ranges to arid deserts. In the Sierra Nevada, Mount Whitney—the highest peak in the 48 coterminous U.S. states—rises to 4,418 meters. Astonishingly, 137 kilometers away is Death Valley, one of the hottest, driest places in the world and, at 86 meters below sea level, the lowest point in the Western Hemisphere.
